I saw something very interesting on the Novedge blog that's definately worth getting out there. A really neat tool called Wikipedia Scanner lets anyone check the anonymous editing of Wikipedia pages. For example, you can find out who made changes to wiki pages. Check it out here

Next I would like to see a tool that let's us check who is funding the "objective" reviews we so often see from our "independent" market analysts.

Top managers know that there is always an alternative to actually making a decision.

By John R. Brandt (Industry Week)

Many people say to me: John, how can the decision-making in my company be so screwed up? Were my bosses born stupid, they ask, or did they somehow evolve backwards into vicious, tiny-brained reptiles? Is there any way, they lament, that we can make it better?

To which I would normally reply: No clue, yes and yes, and not a chance.

I just finished reading Mr. Schoonmaker’s article and I must say that I agree with his opinions but I would like to point out that this is not just a U.S. problem as it is also a problem here in Canada. Like the U.S., Canada has fallen prey to Freetrade (everyone want to be in Mexico to manufacture) and as for outsourcing, India has become the place to be. But the question that needs to be answered is “Why?”.
An inside look at the world of manufacturing: A new thought-provoking bimonthly column that delves into the social, cultural and economic conditions of manufacturing across the world.
Come lunchtime in Vienna, anyone with an ounce of brains heads directly to the nearest Duran Sandwiches restaurant.

The seven Duran shops located around the city have been packed with customers every afternoon for more than 30 years. The reason? Some 40 different open-face sandwiches, each priced at the equivalent of little more than US$1, and all as pleasing to the eye as to the palate.
A few years ago, a great deal of discussion was generated in the "business community" about a paper someone wrote which asked, "Does Information Technology Matter?" I am not sure about the details of that discussion, but I think it is time that we ask the same question about engineering. Or worse yet, we now need to ask, "Does Industry Matter?
From: Jim Womack [mailto:jwomack@lean.org] Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 10:21 PM One of the hardest things in my line of work is seeing a company make enormous strides in getting lean and yet fail to prosper. Today’s heartbreak is Delphi, the giant American auto-parts company that was one of the founding sponsors of LEI and which has been a test bed for our ideas and publications over the past eight years. As you may know, Delphi filed for bankruptcy on October 8 and is now in reorganization.
Continue reading "Necessary But Not Sufficient"
